We seed funded Snapchat, a terrific mobile photo sharing app, back in April when it had less than 200,000 installs. My partner Barry Eggers came across the app when his daughter told him it was one of the three most popular apps at her highschool. The other two were Instagram and Angry Birds. When we met the team and heard their vision and saw how much users loved using the app, we were hooked.
The app has grown wildly beyond our expectations. As Forbes noted a couple of days ago when they wrote about Snapchat:
“… Snapchat, a rapidly-growing photo-sharing app used 30 million times a day by millions of users. To give you a sense of the company’s trajectory, just 10 million photos were shared each day at the end of last month. On Thanksgiving, the four-person company saw users send 1000 photos every second.”
Last week Forbes also noted Instagrams had its biggest usage over Thanksgiving:
At its peak, the photo sharing app saw 226 Thanksgiving photos per second at around 12:40pm PST. The rate of sharing stayed above 200 photos per second for several hours. The number of shared photos doubled from the previous day. That’s a lot of turkey pictures.”
Snapchat’s peak photo posting was four times that of Instagram! Congrats to Evan and Bobby and the rest of the Snapchat team!
