Helping Legal Teams Own Their Intelligence: Our Series H Investment in Harvey
Today, Lightspeed is co-leading Harvey’s Series H.
We are investing because we believe the next source of competitive advantage in AI will not come from access to the same models. It will come from the intelligence organizations built on top of them: intelligence shaped by their own knowledge, standards, judgment, and ways of working.
Harvey is working to build that future for legal. The company helps law firms and in-house legal teams turn years of work product, institutional knowledge, and experience into intelligence they can use, improve, and own. In a profession where context, judgment, and trust matter as much as technical capability, this is a much bigger shift than making individual tasks faster.
This funding will accelerate Harvey’s efforts to help legal teams build and own their intelligence. It will support continued investment in the product, post-training, and the global team required to serve customers at scale.
From AI Assistance to Intelligence Legal Teams Can Own
Legal AI has already shown that it can help lawyers complete individual tasks faster. Harvey is building toward something more durable: a platform that works across matters, workflows, and teams with the context of how an organization operates.
That context is what turns general AI capability into intelligence specific to a law firm or legal department. Over time, an organization’s work, decisions, standards, and ways of working make that intelligence more useful and more differentiated.
The depth of Harvey’s usage is growing alongside its adoption. Between January and June of this year, monthly token consumption on the platform grew 14-fold, from 1 trillion tokens to 14.6 trillion.
A Global Platform for Law Firms and In-House Legal Teams
80 of the Am Law 100 use Harvey, alongside many of the world’s leading in-house legal teams. Customers use the platform for high-stakes work where context, security, and accuracy are essential.
Because Harvey serves both law firms and in-house teams, it can also support new ways for them to work together. With Shared Spaces, firms and their clients can collaborate with Harvey in the same secure environment.
Product Velocity Without Compromising Trust
Harvey ships constantly — their release velocity is among the fastest we have seen of any AI company.
But what helps set Harvey apart is the recognition that, in legal, capability only matters when it is accompanied by trust. That principle runs through the entire stack, from their runtime architected for zero data retention to their Command Center giving organizations visibility into every agent action. That visibility and trust gives legal teams the confidence to expand how they use Harvey.
Harvey is also investing at the model layer. The team built LAB — the open-source Legal Agent Benchmark spanning more than 1,250 tasks across 24 practice areas the industry now measures itself against. Working with research partners, Harvey has post-trained open models to frontier-band performance on legal tasks at roughly a tenth of the cost. Initial LAB results show that frontier models still complete fewer than 10% of complex legal tasks end-to-end under the benchmark’s strict standard. That underscores both the difficulty of the work and the value of Harvey’s continued investment at the model layer.
The Team Building The Future Of Legal & Professional Services
Winston Weinberg and Gabe Pereyra founded Harvey in 2022 on the simple thesis that AI will fundamentally change how legal work gets done. Four years later, we believe they’ve built the company that sets the standard for legal AI, executing faster than anyone else in the market. And in our opinion, assembled one of the most talent-dense teams at the AI application layer, including hundreds of former practicing lawyers building alongside world-class engineers and researchers.
Spending time with the team, three things stood out to us. First, a day-one commitment to a vision of transforming legal work, aspiring to a legal profession that is more efficient for lawyers, firms, and customers. Second, a culture of collective learning. Harvey is a company that is not afraid to reinvent itself, and it tends to attract people who want to grow with it. Third, the Harvey team has a healthy chip on their shoulder: they treat this opportunity as what it is — the chance to build something generational — and take nothing for granted.
And the ambition doesn’t stop at legal. Harvey has built domain agents, workflow infrastructure, and a trust layer that could extend broadly across professional services. Legal is but the first step toward a broader vision of an intelligent operating system for professional services.
For all these reasons, we’re proud to partner with Winston, Gabe, and the entire Harvey team as they help law firms and in-house legal teams around the world build and own their intelligence.
