Brenton joined Lightspeed as a Partner in 2025 to lead Healthtech investing at the firm, with a particular focus on AI’s role in reshaping the healthcare landscape. Previously, he worked closely with Kevin Ryan, the”Godfather of NYC tech,” at AlleyCorp where he started its Healthcare team and led it to become the most active Healthtech investor in the country (per HSBC Annual Venture Healthcare Report 2024).
At AlleyCorp, Brenton served as first investor and board member in value-based care startups like Thyme Care and Pearl Health and healthcare AI startups like Clarium Health. Prior to AlleyCorp, Brenton was an early employee at Flatiron Health and helped build its value-based care business from the ground up, served on its leadership team through acquisition by Roche for ~$2B, and was instrumental in the launch of OneOncology which went on to be acquired by AmerisourceBergen and TPG for ~$2B. He also worked previously at J.P. Morgan in its Healthcare Investment Banking Division, as well as at Blue Cross & Blue Shield.
Brenton started his career as a physician. Board-certified in Internal Medicine, he previously practiced at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and completed residency at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, earning an MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and an MBA in Healthcare Management from the Wharton School.
While practicing medicine, Brenton was struck by how antiquated the technology stack is for healthcare delivery — from pagers to faxes to electronic health records. At the first startup he joined, Flatiron Health, he saw the important role venture capital played in its outsized growth. From his time practicing and operating in startups, he was convinced that venture capital was the vehicle to drive the innovation healthcare technology so direly needs, and ultimately create a new standard of care delivery for patients.
A long-time champion of the “Doctorpreneur” community, Brenton immediately felt at home with Lightspeed’s like-minded doctors on the Healthcare investment team and physician entrepreneurs within the portfolio such as with Abridge and Aledade.
Based in New York City, Brenton is an avid supporter of the New York healthcare ecosystem and serves on the boards of Fund for Public Health NYC, Digital Health New York, and was named Crain’s New York 40 under 40.
