Sachin Patel

Partner. Menlo Park. Growth.

Sachin joined Lightspeed in 2024 as a Partner on the Growth team where he leads investments in enterprise AI applications, fintech and consumer; he prides himself on transparent, authentic and trusted connections with founders as they navigate the complexities of company scaling.

Before joining Lightspeed, Sachin started his career at McKinsey & Company after which he was an investor across multiple stages at Y Combinator (YC) and MSD Partners – a private capital firm backed by Michael Dell. At YC, he invested in Series B to pre-IPO companies in software, fintech, and consumer internet. “YC is an incredibly unique place – I’ve never started a company and would never pretend to understand the depths of what it truly means to be an early-stage founder, but YC certainly felt like a front-row seat. It’s a place that forces empathy on what it takes to start, build, and scale a company.” Sachin then earned his MBA from Stanford, where he angel-invested in over 15 early stage companies and worked part time with Kevin Hartz at A*. At MSD Partners, he focused on later stage growth-stage investments in the same areas.

With roots spanning India, Kenya, the UK, and the US, Sachin’s upbringing shaped his appreciation for diverse perspectives and different ways of seeing the world—values instilled in him by his parents. He is motivated by a deep desire to prove himself, something most evident in his squash career. “I was cut from my middle school team, walked onto Harvard’s squash team, and eventually won a national title and became co-captain. The journey meant as much the outcome.”

Outside of work, Sachin enjoys spending time outdoors with friends or watching any and all sports. “I find a lot of comfort in never getting too high or too low, but appreciating the small moments that make a day great.”
