“Being a good judge of human character with the ability to structure and empower the right team is essential for the long-term success of any company."

Jay has always been captivated by the power of the human imagination. At his core, he views it as the most crucial tool humanity has to positively impact the world. So it should come as no surprise that at Lightspeed, he focuses the majority of his time and energy on nurturing the imaginations of entrepreneurs and helping develop their ideas into reality.

Born in Bangalore, India, Jay moved to America at 10 years old, when his Father got a job in Illinois. Growing up in India, he learned early on the importance of community. Moving to America forced him to embrace change and adaptability. After completing his BS in Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Jay joined Facebook (pre-IPO), and experienced the thrill of rapid innovation in a company connecting the world. From there, he followed his entrepreneurial instinct to join Rubrik (a Lightspeed portfolio company) as a founding member. “Getting to dive into all the challenges of building Rubrik from the ground up, while generating innovation in the enterprise world, was one of the greatest growth experiences of my life,” said Jay. In addition, he learned about the importance of culture and mentorship as he scaled the Product Engineering team within Rubrik from just a few people to hundreds. “Being a good judge of human character with the ability to structure and empower the right team is essential for the long-term success of any company,” said Jay.

As a partner at Lightspeed, Jay brings a deep understanding of the Enterprise Infrastructure space and helps bridge the gap between anticipating trends and making the best investment decisions. And as much as he loves technology, he recharges by turning off all electronics and spending quality time in nature. From hiking in the Palo Alto foothills to exploring Half Moon Bay, being in nature quiets his mind and brings unity to his ideas. Jay also grew up meditating and it remains a daily practice to increase clarity and focus. “As a VC, part of my job is to be able to see the future,” said Jay. “Meditation has been a huge tool in helping give me the space and time needed to contemplate where the world is going and fuel my creativity.”
